Darius Campbell Danesh reportedly checked into an apartment under Gerard Butler’s girlfriend Morgan Brown’s name in the days before his death.
The Pop Idol star died at the age of 41 this week. His family said he was found dead in his US apartment, and his cause of death remains unknown.
Danesh Campbell was friends with Den Of Thieves star Butler, with the pair seen enjoying a stroll together in Malibu on June 11 in what is thought to be the final photo taken of him.
On August 11, the singer was reportedly found unresponsive in the Berkman apartments opposite the Mayo clinic treatment centre (it is not known whether he was receiving treatment).
MailOnline cites a source as saying he had checked in under the name Morgan Brown.
Danesh Campbell and Butler were said to have been introduced by Rod Stewart and became close in recent months.
The actor has not publicly spoken out on his friend’s death.
The heartbreaking news was announced on Tuesday, with the pop icon’s family sharing a statement.
‘It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darius Campbell Danesh,’ they said.
‘Darius was found unresponsive in bed in his apartment room in Rochester, Minnesota, on August 11 and was pronounced dead in the afternoon by the local medical examiners’ office.
‘The local police department have confirmed that there were no signs of intent or suspicious circumstances. The cause of his sudden death is unknown at this stage while medical examinations continue.
‘We ask that you kindly respect our wishes for privacy at this time whilst we come to terms with the tragic loss of our son and brother.’
The Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner’s Office is currently conducting tests into Campbell Danesh’s death, including toxicology.
Toxicology, which is usually among the first tests to come back, can take up to two months.
Tributes have poured in for the late singer, from stars including Pop Idol’s Gareth Gates, Simon Cowell, and Campbell Danesh’s ex-wife, Natasha Henstridge.
The Scottish star was best known for appearing on Popstars in 2001 with a Britney Spears performance that would go down in history, before making the finals of Pop Idol in its first series in 2002.
He also had an incredible music and theatre career, landing a number one single in 2002 and starring on the West End.
Reps for Darius Campbell Danesh declined to comment. Metro.co.uk has contacted reps for Gerard Butler for comment.
