A PORTUGUESE number seven stole the show in Oslo – just not the one everyone had come here to see.

Joao Felix's late winner saw United end their pre-season tour with a first defeat of the summer as Cristiano Ronaldo watched them waste chance after chance from the sofa back home.

The wantaway No7, last season's top scorer, was left back in Manchester as the Red Devils travelled to Oslo for the final stop of their tour and his absence was very much felt.

Ronaldo missed the trips to Thailand and Australia for "family reasons" and has made it clear to bosses that he wants to leave Old Trafford this window but hinted that he will make his return in United's final friendly against Rayo Vallecano tomorrow.

With no Ron here in Norway, all eyes were on new star signings Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez.

The duo were made to wait for a first start, however, with Ten Hag deeming them not ready to face 90 minutes.

Anthony Elanga was called in to replace Jadon Sancho, who travelled to Norway but felt unwell overnight.

United made a fast start with chances for both Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial – the pair looking to build on impressive pre-season campaigns.

Rashford cut inside and saw his low effort held by Atletico keeper, Jan Oblak, before Martial sent an effort just over the bar after breaking away to go one-on-one.

The Frenchman was happy to take on the Atletico defenders whenever space allowed in the box, with Jose Gimenez turning another effort behind for a corner.

United ended the half with a flurry of efforts on goal but all were directed straight at the Atletico keeper.

Having frustrated United throughout, Atletico boss Diego Simeone made TEN changes just short of the hour mark – with star men Alvaro Morata, Antoine Griezmann and Felix sent on.

Ten Hag responded by sending on new man Eriksen to a huge ovation, the supporters cheering his every touch.

The Dane almost unlocked the door when Elanga and Rashford fell an inch short of his low cross.

Youngster Facundo Pellistri fluffed a chance late on after Rashford's deflected shot fell to his feet but the winger could only manage a mishit.

With just minutes to go Altetico made United pay for their wasted chances.

Morata found Felix in space on the edge of the box allowing the Portguese to cut in and fire a low effort home.

Things got even worse for Ten Hag when, struggling to control his frustration, Fred stamped on Morata in midfield and was shown a second yellow card.
