Historically, Olaplex hasn’t had much competition when it comes to products promising superior hair repairing abilities. That is, until now. K18, a luxury haircare brand, is hitting it big time on social media, with some users and hair gurus saying its treatment features “enhanced” strand repairing benefits that work to rebuild bonds. The brand goes one step further and says that it can do this in as little as four minutes.
The brand even has the seal of approval from This Morning presenter Rochelle Humes, who says in a new Instagram story that she can confirm “it’s very good”. Kim Kardashian also recently spoke about the brand in a video explaining how she went blonde without compromising the condition, name checking both Olaplex and K18 for helping her to keep her hair healthy.
So what do the two brands offer? In a video titled “Olaplex or K18?” TikToker and hair expert Abbey Yung explains what she thinks the differences between Olaplex’s No3 Hair Perfector,£28 here, and K18’s Leave-In Molecular Repair Hair Mask,£25 here, are…
“These are the best damage repair products on the market. I’ve tried both so let’s see which one is the best,” she says. “Olaplex works by rebuilding [hair] bonds that break from heat, water and mechanical damage. K18 also rebuilds those broken bonds PLUS repairs our hair’s keratin chain. When it comes to the product that’s going to give the longest lasting results, it’s K18.”
The video now has nearly 18k likes and plenty of comments from fellow hair enthusiasts who have also tried both products.
“Licensed hairstylist here and I swear by K18. It’s a holy grail product that is worth all the money, I promise,” says one. A second weighs in with: “I’ve heard to switch back and forth between the two,” while a third says: “I’m still an Olaplex girl for life.”
With split opinions on which brand is “better”, it seems the general consensus is that there’s space on the market for both of these brands. Olaplex definitely offers a wider and complementary range of haircare, with ten products currently for sale. K18 currently only has one available to buy in the UK at the moment, the leave-in mask.
Interestingly, both brands have patented technology and don’t use the same hero ingredient. They do, however, both work from the inside out to repair damage from bleaching, chemical services and heat – making them perfect picks for those with compromised strands.
So what’s the consensus? There’s space on your bathroom shelves for both. After all, when can we ever have TOO much hair repairing goodness?
