During Wednesday night’s instalment of BBC’s The One Show, the hosts welcomed Line of Duty stars Adrian Dunbar and Martin Compston along with their new partners in crime, Ridley’s Bronagh Waugh and Gordon Smart. With the four guests all being connected in one way, Bronagh revealed why she was left mortified when first meeting Martin.
Commenting on how all four guests are in some way connected, The One Show’s Jermaine addressed Bronagh about her recent series called Our House.
Noting that Martin also featured in the ITV thriller, he mentioned when they were filming together it ended up being slightly tricky.
Replying, the Northern Irish star said it was definitely challenging during their scene at the funfair.
Retelling the story, Bronagh said: “That was actually the first time I had met Martin.
“We had this scene and I was mortified because I had just had a baby, who I think was about six weeks old at the time.
“I was getting no sleep at all! I was so worried, I was thinking, ‘Oh my god, I’ve got this big scene with Martin, it’s really wordy’.”
The actress told hosts Emma and Jermaine that as she was running on zero sleep she had to confess to Martin when he arrived.
She continued: “I was like, ‘Mate, I am so sorry I’ve had zero sleep, the lines are going to be all over the place, it’s absolute chaos’.”
However, Bronagh revealed after she shared her concerns with Martin, he told her not to worry as he had been out late with Adrian the night before.
The One Show hosts and the guests all erupted with laughter as the actress added: “Immediately, he made me feel relaxed and at home.
“Then we had to battle with all the lights and the noise, it was horrendous.”
Bronagh was appearing on the BBC chat show to speak about the upcoming detective drama she’s in with Adrian called Ridley.
The four-part series focuses on ex-Detective Inspector Alex Ridley (Adrian) who comes out of retirement to help young protegee DI Carol Farman (Bronagh) on a murder case.
However, the investigation takes a dark and unexpected twist when viewers find out more about Ridley’s past.
Wanting to find out more about the new crime drama, Emma asks Adrian how his new character Ridley compares to his former Line of Duty role as Ted Hastings
He said: “You find this man at a very difficult point in his life, I mean he’s lost his wife and daughter in a very horrendous house fire.
“He’s isolated and quite depressed and a colleague shows up and tells him about a case that’s come to light again, some new evidence has come and kind of warns him off it.
“But of course, that’s the one thing that’s going to get him interested.”
Ridley starts on ITV on Sunday, 28 August at 8pm.
